Renee Mak is a self-taught abstract expressionist, attempting to express the essence of things on her substrate thru mark-making, color and texture; and  has been painting professionally more than twenty years. 

 She’s most inspired by nature and attempts to capture the mark it makes on her soul.  Through her use of a wide variety of tools, Renee’s process involves an interactive dance between the canvas and the materials and the emotional response to each other; the end goal in her work is to dive deep, strip away the obvious, and present the interactive experience it whispers in the moment.  

 She’s created with various mediums throughout her rich career,  but always returns to her first love, mixed media, because she feels nature is made up of a mixed media palette.
